Hey guys,
I took some time off of content creation for a couple of weeks because I was dealing with a few deaths in my family.
But I’m somewhat back now. I got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine a couple of days ago and it was a bittersweet moment, knowing that if my sister had had access to the vaccine earlier it might have saved her. I’m only going to be fully vaxxed by mid-October so I’m going to be living life much the same until then.
A show that I talk about often on here is The Crown, it is also quite special to me because it is something that my mom, my sister and I watched together. This week they released stills from season 5 of Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana.
^ Dominic West as Prince Charles in The Crown season 5
Debicki is fantastic casting, but even though I think Dominic West is a great actor, I can’t help but think he is too hot to play Prince Charles. Don’t judge me, but I find Dominic West v v attractive, even his recent m*ln**i role in The Pursuit of Love was so entertaining, I was still swooning. Now, one person I don’t find attractive is Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall. I even thought casting Josh O’Connor in Season 3 & 4 was pretty generous.
I want to hate Charles next season, I don’t want to have conflicted feelings. I don’t want to be like ‘maybe he has a point if he turns his head in that way.’ But one thing that The Crown does is that it subverts the idea of what you think you know, so I’m interested to see how 'Hot Prince Charles’ will deal with things in season 5 in 2022.
On that note, in the film Spencer which has Kristen Stewart playing Princess Diana, Jack Farthing (Poldark) playing Prince Charles, and I’m like ‘???’. Have these casting agents seen Prince Charles before? I’m so confused.
TL:DR of this:
celeb couples update
When Zoe Kravitz filed for divorce from Karl Glusman in January there was plenty of speculation about who she was dating. And it seems as if Channing Tatum is the lucky guy. Channing is starring in Zoe’s film that she’s directing, Pussy Island and the two were spotted cozying it up in New York City.
okay i’m ready to talk gossip girl
**spoilers for gossip girl reboot ep 1-6**
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my thoughts on reboots. Basically I’m not opposed as most, and usually willing to give it a chance. So naturally I’ve been watching the Gossip Girl reboot, I was a diehard fan of the original and teen dramas are my speed.
There’s a lot to enjoy about the show - the cast is young and fresh, the fashion is pretty cool and it’s a lot more diverse than the original show – but but there’s just no oomph. With a show as messy as Gossip Girl I should not be getting bored so often. It follows two half sisters - Julien and Zoya at Constance Billard as Zoya joins the school and starts dating Julien’s ex, Obie. Gossip Girl is now an Instagram account run by the school’s teachers. And it’s not nearly as spicy as it thinks it is.
I’m not going to lie, I’m probably going to continue watching it, to see where it goes. I do like the sisters, and the throuple between Audrey, Aki and Max. But I hope they send Obie away like they did to Ethan after season 1 of 90210. And the teachers all deserve jail. Also they need to make the parents more interesting, there is no one fit to touch the heel of Lily Rhodes van der Woodsen Mueller Bass Humphrey.
What did you think about the reboot?

Book: The Spanish Love Affair by Elena Armas - If you are looking for a contemporary romance that is an easy read this book had me hooked. It has some of my favourite tropes such as fake dating and enemies-to-lovers.
Read the synopsis here: A wedding. A trip to Spain. The most infuriating man. And three days of pretending. Or in other words, a plan that will never work.Catalina Martín, finally, not single. Her family is happy to announce that she will bring her American boyfriend to her sister's wedding.
what i’ve been writing
One of my favourite series I’ve watched recently, Schmigadoon! I reviewed it for Channel24, and it tells the story of a couple on the rocks who get stuck in a town that’s based on a 40s musical. You can watch it on Apple TV+ and read my review here.
I also recently reviewed the new Christina Milian romcom, Resort to Love on Netflix. You can read my 3 star review here.
If you like a good British period miniseries with contemporary moments and the greatest man ever, Andrew Scott. I reviewed The Pursuit of Love on Amazon Prime for Channel24.
AND the third instalment of The Kissing Booth franchise came out and I’m not going to lie it was terrible. You can watch it on Netflix and read my 1 star review on Channel24.
what’s ign crushing on
We’ve released two episodes over the last month:
The first I chatted to actor and podcaster Tarryn Steyn about Bennifer 2.0, Love Is Blind and more. I also spoke to legendary South African comedian Marc Lottering about his journey in comedy, representing coloured culture and being a recognisable SA celeb. You can listen to that ep here.
In the second we chatted to SA-born director Liesl Tommy who directed Respect, the Aretha Franklin biopic as well as Queen Sugar, Jessica Jones and the upcoming adaptation of the Trevor Noah book, Born A Crime. We chatted about casting Jennifer Hudson as Aretha, how her SA background helped her understand Aretha’s civil rights and why it was important to centre Aretha’s relationship with other women. You can listen to the ep here.
